THAT ONE ROSE

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The illustration, created for an ongoing book layout and illustration project about gardens, homes and family stories, depicts a single rose picked from the family garden. This image is based on a ritual that our grandfather had preserved in our family memory – for every woman who came to visit to pick a rose from the garden and give it as a gift before leaving. The small gesture becomes an expression of hospitality, closeness and care, and the rose is a symbol of family tradition, home and a memory that is passed on.
